Ooohhh... now I'm blogging weekly!
I've been serving jury duty this week. It wraps up next week. I don't believe I'm allowed to say anything else. OK, I know I can say a little more, but then I'd be tempted to just spill. Take this as my official record. I've revealed nothing. I am a serious juror. Actually, for the first time, I was hoping to get selected. Work is kinda slow, and my employer pays me for time spent at jury duty - so it's not such an onerous obligation. I don't think many people object to the actual process itself, it's just the accompanying burdens. For some, it's child care. For some, it's hard to leave work and leave instructions behind for those filling in. For many, which was usually me in the past, it's a financial drain. I've had several jobs that would require me to serve jury duty without pay. I put down on one juror survey - in all seriousness - that if I were required to serve on a trial that lasted several weeks I would be unable to pay rent. Which - ironically - could end up in me not paying rent and fighting an eviction in the court later. That didn't happen. Could've. Didn't.
In TRUE News of the Ironic - I sprained my calf on my way to the gym. Literally, ONE BLOCK from the gym. The muscle just seized up. I hobbled past the gym entrance and got right back on the bus I had just got off. I was annoyed that I can't get some sort of physical credit from the universe - the road to health was paved with good intentions. Heh. Anyway, it's a little better now. Although I initially self-diagnosed myself with a vein disorder, and gave myself minutes or many years to live, depending on whether or not a clot was currently headed for my heart or brain stem. People like me? Should not watch House.
My lackluster attempt at budgeting this month involves not buying any new clothes, and only buying music directly related to my current band. So far, so good. PLUS, I applied my entire bonus check to credit card debt. Fucking credit cards. If I can do the same with my tax return - provided I am getting a tax return, which I probably am - I'll do the same. Then - I need to re-examine my status as a car owner. City CarShare does turn out to have a nearby location. But - overnight trips will prove costly. And I LOVE my car.
